OUR STORY
Allergy Aware was ideated by founder, Brady Barr, while he was a junior attending Minnesota State University, Mankato. Brady has had food allergies his whole life. It started out with milk, egg, and peanut allergies which have now grown into more than 18 food allergies. Brady found it difficult to go out to eat and enjoy the public food environment. This sparked an idea in his mind! Let’s make food allergy menus more of a thing! He began to work with a mentor on campus in Mankato to bring his idea to life. The original idea has shifted slightly but we have the same vision! Make life with food allergies easier! Allergy Aware was given it’s offical 501 (c) 3 non-profit status in January 2022.
"Eating out is the hardest part of living with a food allergy." says Brady. He added, “I know what I can and cannot eat, so eating at home has never been much of a problem.” As Brady has become used to looking at nutrition labels at grocery stores, he came up with the mission of Allergy Aware. Since eating out in a public location is the most common source of anaphylactic shock for allergy sufferers, he wants to support restaurants in creating allergy menus.
